Bees, words and emerging economies

Sunrise at the factory/Punch out with your self belief intact/They can’t hold you back/Your face has a spirit shine/Your man works the diamond mine/I know you don’t move slow/Wind through the trees/We’re swarming like bees/We transform the frequencies/Your town is a failed state/But your house is a safer place inside/Fight against the tide/Sunset and you’re dodging drones/Your voice rings like a megaphone for truth/You’re living proof/Hospital lights they hold back the night/You won’t give up the fight/Wind through the trees/We’re swarming like bees/We transform the frequencies

Today is World AIDS Day, I thought it might be appropriate to post the lyrics for our new song “Bees.” I was inspired to write it after trying to imagine what my daughter Amelia would be like if she grew up in the developing world. Over the course of my life I’ve spent time in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brazil, Mexico and other countries where opportunities are more limited and infectious diseases are a real threat to regular people living out their dreams. The strength of character and drive that kids have to have to succeed is inspiring. In the end this song isn’t about any specific person but more a tribute to hope and humanity.

4 Track Sketches: “Birds”

Here’s a piece I wrote last decade for Rhino Magazine when I was an editorial intern/writer at Warner Music. One of my top five published pieces in my mind at least.
